Today’s domains are all Pagerank two with a couple years of age and links. They are really cheap at a ‘buy it now’ price of around $9.

I personally use domains like this for two things.

1) Building mini-sites. If I find a domain that fits a niche I want to build in I know I can get a head start with a domain like these that have some ‘trust’ in Google.

2) Link Networks – I build autoblogs on these domains then link to my own sites or sell links through sites like TextLinkAds.com

Today I’ve been looking at some domains in the Godaddy Auctions and they are old and crusty. 12 and 13 years old! They’re currently classed as ‘closeouts’ which means you can buy them for $9 right now. No bidding, this is a ‘buy it now’ auction like ebay.

Why bother with old domains? Because age is a big factor in search rankings. Google treats new domains with suspicion and old domains with trust. This means that if you grab an old domain, re-build the old site (archive.org) and then change the content once the site has re-ranked. This is my usual strategy. I’ve also had look just buying domains and building sites on them or – buying relevant domains to my niche then 301 redirecting it to a new site. All that link juice can then flow to my website.

To buy these domains you’ll need to search for them at the Godaddy Auctions and you’ll require a $5 per year membership. You could have in your ownership a 13 year old domain with links for under $20 today.

Note: Wayback records are copies saved (cached) of how the site was in the past. You can find the records at archive.org – very helpful for rebuilding sites.

If there is one thing I love it’s buying a domain with traffic. I can then quickly look at where the traffic is coming from, which pages it’s hitting and build a mini-site to make money off of it instantly.

I picked up a domain from auction for $120, scraped the old website from Archive.org and put some adsense on it. Few weeks later and it’s making $10 per day.

Why do all the hard work in building a site when someone out there is just giving away the whole lot?

The interesting thing is that once you re-build a site on these domains they get indexed by google, usually re-gain their old rankings and the traffic can double or even triple.

Today I’m listing a bunch of domains in the Godaddy Auctions that have traffic. One domain has 60’000 visitors per month. What could you do with that much traffic?
